The Language of Fanfics

"Fred, I am not using a French song in my story." I tell my wayward muse.

"But it's a really cool song."

"Because I can't. I can't make out all the words and I'm not about to translate what I can figure out. So unless you can find me some lyrics or the English version of the song forget it." I snap at my Fred.

Fred sighs. "Don't you even want to know what song it is?" He wheedles.

I roll my eyes. "Okay, what song is it?"

Fred grins broadly from ear to ear as his body ripples between invisibility and visibility. At the moment his front half is visible and his rear is missing. "It's 'Je suis le bebe' by Geordi."

I stare at my muse. I frown in concentration, trying to figure out where in the world he got a hold of that song. I don't have it, well I did but my French teacher a LONG time ago borrowed the tape and never gave it back. "Where in the world did you hear that one? And why on earth do you think it would make a good Power Ranger story."

Fred gave me a look of pure indulgence. I obviously wasn't getting it. "You have to lyrics written down and I looked at them. They looked really cool on the page. I just wish I knew what it meant."

"You won't like it. It's by a four year old. I really don't think it'd fit." I marvel at my muse. For someone or thing in his case, that's supposed to know me inside and out, I still can't figure out why he doesn't know any language except English.

"That's not true." He says looking at my screen. "Amy taught me Afrikaans. And I know Gorblinz too."

"What in the world is Gorblinz?" I ask, half afraid of the answer.

"It's the official language of Pianaptria."

I stare at my little muse and wonder if I've finally lost my mind. "And where exactly is Pianaptria?"

Fred rolls his eyes at me. Guess I should have known where this planet, country, town, whatever it is, is. "It's where the red aliens live, goofy."

"Oh. Okay...and where is that planet again?" I ask.

Fred lets out an exaggerated sigh. Guess I should have known this too. "Yes you should have." He answers.

"Will you just tell me the answer please?" I ask, trying to keep my patience. Not easy, since I injured my knee on Monday and am now icing the thing.

"You should've known better than to do Karate. I'm surprised you didn't hurt yourself before this." Oswald speaks up from his spot on my window ledge.

"You be quiet. Unlike Fred, you're actually real, and I could give you to Rachel and Xu."

"Oh I'm scared."

"You should be. They want you to commit suicide." I tell him. Ever since he came back up here, all he's given me is attitude. Must have been hanging around my siblings too much. "So Fred, are you going to tell me where this planet is or what? You know, it'd be very handy to know in case I ever get captured by evil...uh...salamanders."

Fred gives me a funny look and Oswald bursts out laughing. I ignore my rosebush.

"Okay, but can we write a story like Andrew does?" He asks.

"I don't know, Fred. We've tried a few times and it didn't work all that well. And we've got all those other ones to finish. Not to mention that OVG."

"Oh, yeah. I keep forgetting about that one. But I can't help you with it. I'm not old enough to see that. But the red aliens live over by KO-35, and your home planet, Simnek."

"Ahhh...I see. Okay, thanks for the info. And no Fred, we're not using the Geordi song. Forget it. Stick to English."

"Well, how about an Afrikaans song...or a Japanese song. Hey...we could use one of your Eavesdropping assignments. That would be really cool!"

I roll my eyes and tune out my muse. He had to remind me that that stupid Eavesdropping assignment in Japanese is due tomorrow.
